During your visit, your eye exam will be conducted by an independent doctor of optometry (*ODs). In addition to examining your overall vision and eye health, your doctor may screen for:
- early indicators of potential conditions.
- diseases or injuries that may have long term effects.
- vision needs and/or corrections.
- color vision and depth perception.
After your exam, your doctor may provide you with a better understanding of your eye health, and let you know of any recommended changes in habits, eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Regular eye exams are important to ensure the overall health of your eyes. So to make sure you get the most out of your appointment, you may want to:
- If you have eyeglasses or contact lenses, take them with you to your visit.
- Make note of any irritations or vision problems you're having.
- Bring a list of questions you have for your eye doctor.
- Be prepared to discuss any medication you're taking, and know your and your family's eye health history.
- After your visit, your pupils may be dilated, so be sure to bring a pair of sunglasses with you for the trip home.
